Hard to find, CLEAN, 1970 ORIGINAL first pressing that was issued ONLY in the USA ...containing YARDBIRDS Jimmy Page (guitar) & Chris Dreja (bass)... 

The title cut ‘The North Wind Blew South’ is an airy, eerie tune with a baroque underpinning and a vaguely sinister sounding chorus. It’s a great example of where pop-sike was heading at the turn of the decade, right before it fell off the edge of the earth into the prog-volcano. There are touches of the sound there, but the Hobbits and unicorns have yet to arrive (or at least step out into the lyrics). There’s a groovy bagpipe-like sound (which sounds like some kind of woodwind, oboe, cor anglais???), and Lincoln’s breathy vocals remind the listener what a long shadow Donovan castLittle is known of this British solo artist other than he issued an obscure single (‘Running By The River’ b/w the outstanding‘Rainy Day’) in 1968. In 1970, Lincoln released a U.S. only full length album (‘The North Wind Blew South’) along with a supporting 45 on CBS All songs on the LP were penned by Lincoln, with highlights that include ‘The Plains Of Delight’, ‘Rainy Day’ and of course the spacey title track. Another cut on the album, the simple but quite pleasant ‘Temma Harbour’ has a Bossa-Nova guitar based rythym. The trippy "You're The One" has a great drum line.

The LP includes Jimmy Page and Chris Dreja as supporting musicians, confirmed that Dreja, a then aspiring photographer, who took the front and back photos for the album cover. Lincoln later moved out of the spotlight to become a successful record producer. t

Philamore Lincoln's only album was engineered by no less than Glyn Johns, produced by James Wilder & with sleeve design by John Kosh AND it was released on Epic. That's a lot of heavyweights for a person that released just the one LP. The other strange thing was that his song 'Temma Harbour' became a hit for Mary Hopkin even before his own version was released here. You can do your own sums - The Epic & Yardbirds connections, the Apple / Glyn Johns / John Kosh / Mary Hopkin connection - a riddle indeed. Here is a fine copy of that very rare ten track solo LP. The sleeve is in beautiful condition with minimal shelfwear or edge scuffing [Demonstration stamped on the back] & the vinyl is superb with no marks at all - a fantastic copy of this hard to find psyche/folk/pop legend!
