Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. Minty....ADVANCED RELEASE 1970 PROMOTIONAL
PRE-RELEASE 1970 FIRST PRINT! ~~~ The third (1970) LP and final one by the'60s era Kaleidoscope crew, even though the band would reform & record in the later '70s...

The American band Kaleidoscope was formed in southern California in 1966 and quickly became a fan favorite in the psychedelic scene due to their unique instrumentation and wild studio techniques. After three unique and acclaimed albums and a popular live career the band released their final album “Bernice” in 1970 on Epic Records.
The album went right over their fans heads, as they didn’t particularly like the record, citing a lack of creativity in comparison to the earlier albums. Despite the negative fan reaction and it’s reputation as a different music direction, the band actually put in a solid effort, still a very "underground" style, the album thankfully has no commercial appeal. That being said, “Bernice” has some of our favorite Kaleidoscope songs throughout BOTH sides. Perhaps it sounds like a wild psych band doing their take on the heavy edged blues & creative rock with bent-edges amid stoned-out lyrics -- we can’t help but love the album.

For instance, dig the country-fried funk of the first two tracks, “Chocolate Whale” and especially “Another Lover.”…or the odd psychedelic honky-tonk of “Sneaking’ Thru The Ghetto”

Our favorite tracks being the most unique offerings on the album are right in the middle. Track four delivers: “To Know Is Not To Be” transitioning us from the Southern California vibe of the early tracks with a breezy psychedelic treatise on consciousness, moving along in odd time and flavored with unique harmonies that herald back to earlier albums.

Then after a grungy revamp of the flipped-out “Lulu Arfin Nanny” we have the spot-on Zappa impression “Lie & Hide” sporting a slick riff over a laconic rhythm section, with deliberately cartoonish falsetto’s espousing the benefits of hiding your illicit behavior from law enforcement and society at large. The tongue in cheek commentary on the bold ideas but reclusive nature of hippie culture is strong in this one, and overall the song does manage to capture the band’s sense of humor. The final track, like Beacon From Mars features a nifty l-o-n-g blues-psych jam titled “New Blue Ooze,” a wholly underground rock/blues/psych style that could only be from the late '60s. So overall the album is fairly balanced and if you’re just getting into Kaleidoscope, start off with one of their first two albums as an introduction. But if you’re a fan of both late ’60s Summer-Of-Love psych and early ’70s rural outlaw hippie/blues rock then “Bernice”, while not necessarily a legendary album, will satisfy your urges and nowhere even near the maligned rap this album gets due to the band shedding the exotic eastern flares of their legendary works..
