This is quite something! Remember 'Spirit In The Sky'? Well, this single, Love Has Taken Over My Brain, begins where that left off, with lashings of fuzz-psych-freakbeat guitar, a pounding beat and a really - I mean really - catchy chorus. Which all makes it the more baffling that it created virtually nothing in terms of impact at the time. I think it was created by session musician and is unlikely that there ever was a proper group or band by the name of Buster Jangles' Flying Mattress! But with talent like this there should have been. The A side was released on August 13, 1971 - maybe the date was the unlucky factor. I received this 'Demonstration Sample' promo copy for review - I received two actually, and it was the other one which I played continuously at parties, etc - and it was played minimally. There is a minor cosmetic flaw on side one, which has no effect at all on playing quality. VG+ at least both sides, with no spindle wear. Both tracks here were penned by 'Clark-Naylor', who also produced. I have no idea who they were although some websites specialising in this area put up one or two suggestions, albeit none of them seems to have conclusive support. The B side, 'The Little World I Knew' is a somewhat calmer affair but still with much to commend it. The label proudly declares that this is a 'Stereo' single - and, I have to tell you, a top notch one. Very few copies come up for sale, so now's your chance.......
