Original rare 1971 DANISH SONET label pressing of Danish group Burnin' Red Ivanhoe that made serious waves of recommendation among progressive collectors in the early 70's, and onward. Burning Red Ivanhoe released about 7 Lp's and here is "W.W.W." probably their best one!
Burnin' Red Ivanhoe was formed back in 1967, and that makes them one of the first scandinavian prog bands. Their style was quite original from the start, blending jazz-rock with R&B, blues, psychedelia, etc.. their first LP from 1969 (was a double album!) "M 144" sounds somewhat like THE WHO with progressive influences. Most of Burnin' Red Ivanhoe's albums have that certain Scandinavian touch to it, similar to early 70's prog groups such as WIGWAM, CULPEPER'S ORCHARD and TASAVALLAN PRESIDENTTI. In 1971, the band released the album "WWW", which is probably a good place to start (for progressive rock collectors), as it contains some of their most progressive and interesting work.
Don't assume this is a jazz rock / fusion kind of progressive group as sometimes suggested. More like U.K. Cantenbury with complexities of "Soft Machine" and "Caravan" - meeting Krautrock glories "Out Of Focus" all with the same atmosphere and harmonic solutions. If you listen closely to this record you will remember it forever. Beautiful flute and winds interplay, Burning Red have their own original style of creating progressive rock with a lot of fun and joy. This is a masterpiece as good as best early Caravan meets early Soft Machine and Out Of Focus, perhaps instrumentation of early 70s UK "Traffic," and we can recommend it to everybody interested in prog. Interesting to note the sonic similarities that are reminiscent of the excellent German group Out Of Focus. The title track starts out dreamily as an oriental-desert psyched-out trip: you could almost see the early 70's hippies crossing Iran on their way to Kathmandu in their Combi VW while listening to this. Close to the best German groups such as Embryo, this track is a pure delight. With almost no transition we veer into ""(these guys were most likely smoking some dynamite stuff), which is definitely more dynamic and brilliantly played and ends up in motif that is exactly the one that the next track uses to pick up the pieces. "Karsemore" (give us their dealer's name, we must taste the stuff ;-), this track starts almost basic but soon veers into a demented jazz-psyched out rock. Cool stuff and Burning Red Ivanhoe is on top of their game in this lengthy three-piece suite. After another stand out track "Oblong Serenade" is a phenomenal succession of blistering solos over a great rhythm and a fitting outro for the album they call "Cucumber-Porcupine." ...
