The 1971-72 Dobyns-Bennett High School Band had the privilege of participating in the first Inter- national Band Festival in Vienna, Austria. Their appearance was made possible by the generous support of the parents of the band students and the financial backing of our community. This record is dedicated to the citizens of our community. On July 13, 1972 the band appeared for their program at the world-famous Konzerthaus in Vienna. This was one of the many official appearances by the band during their trip, but that was the high- light of the Festival for D oby ns - B enne tt. For their performance that evening, the Band won the coveted National Education Scholarship Found- ation award for musical excellence: Best Concert Band in competition. For Mr. J. S. TILSON, con- ductor, and the members of the band, this climaxed a year of hard work and dedication. It more than rewarded the efforts of the Band Boosters for their part in handling the fund raising and mak- ing travel plans and arrangements for the trip. Words of praise came from Dr. William D. Revelli, retired Director of Bands at the University of Michigan and chief adjudication. Praise was evident from the other two judges.
