Dolly Parton became Porter Wagoner’s leading lady singer after Nor- ma Jean ended her seven-year stint to get married. Together with Porter, Dolly has become a country legend. She appeared in a television series that was carried by more stations than any other syndicated show in the his- tory of country TV. She head- lined numerous TV specials. And, certainly of great signifi- cance to country music his- tory, she performed at the first concert devoted exclu- sively to country music at Madison Square Garden. Late in 1971, Nashville took over New York City, and Dolly Par- ton played a lead part. The career that began when Dolly was ten shot to song- writing, singing country clas- sics, and several Grammy nominations and awards, in- cluding “Most Promising Fe- male Vocalist” in 1968 and "Top Vocal Duo” 1968-1970.
