I'm giving my friends in eBayland another chance.. 

I have seen only one example in this EX/VG++ range EVER TO SELL-- for $1300 back in 2007..

The other 2 other copies ... that's correct, I see only 3 examples EVER TO SELL, were G and VG- grades, Bad Sounding Records!! 

I pulled this ultra rarity, because no one cared to show it any respect ..

And I may indeed pull it again, because I also love and collect records myself!!

1973 SUPERB! AUGUST TIDE – Laurie / Far Away Places HOLY GRAIL CAROLINA BEACH MUSIC PLAY TEST EX-!

Still dispersing a great conditioned record collection, collected by a former Nashville, TN area disc jockey during the 1960’s through the 1990’s.  This amazing group of vinyl comprised about 4500 different records in an eclectic mix of rock, Psych, punk, Jazz, world music, folk, New Wave, Metal & spoken word.

  

This lifelong collection of records was assembled by a discriminating, condition only, audiophile record collector.

Here is a bit of background about this amazingly scarce private press (AND REALLY FABULOUS) 45 record by coastal North Carolina band AUGUST TIDE:

At the time their only records was produced, August Tide was serving as House Band for the Buccaneer in Greenville, NC USA, (home of East Carolina University), which was fast becoming known as NC's definitive party school. 

The band broke up while on stage and reformed with other members to become ONYX.

The lead vocalist was Orlando Little, known also as "Big O", he died tragically several years after ONYX disbanded and the Buccaneer closed it's doors for good...

 ONYX never released a record and this is the only record released by AUGUST TIDE..

I could really discover nothing else about this fabulous band?!?

And Darn Tooty is this 45 record a Beach Music Burner!!! 

My favorite track is Far Away Places!!! 

 

Killer Hammond Organ and Rollicking Piano and what sounds like about 15 back-up singers propel this song straight up to the stratosphere!!

And Soul of the God lead vocalist, which I assume to be is the "Big O", can sure belt out one gorgeous multi-layered Soul / R&B song indeed!! 

But there is really little to no internet info about this band, song or record I could find!?!  

What a Lost Gem!!

The tune reinvents and then simply makes their OWN, The Chordette's "Mr. Sandman's" ...Bong.. Bong.. Bong.. Bong..Bong..Bong.. Bong.. in a truly MIND BLOWING way!!

How this band never got as HUGE as The Castaways, General Johnson or The Embers.. is quite beyond me!!

The other side, LAURIE, is sung by a different lead singer.. And after hearing this bluesy break-up song a few times, I really came to love it alot!

But FAR AWAY PLACES burns the House Right Down!!

  

Has been Freshly Utrasonic Cleaned with TergiKleen!!

And please read about what this (above) cleaning method does for a record's sound separation, sonic depth, crispness, clarity & overall sound stage presence.. it makes an old 45 sound just about like Brand New!!

The Ultra Sonic cleaning removes every speck of groove dust and really, really makes a record sound Fantastic!!

 

Both 45 sides have been 100% PLAY TESTED (now 3 times - at high volume level) using our Technics SL 3200 turntable..

My Favorite track FAR AWAY PLACES play tests for a Solid EX/ VG++!!

Setting the needle down there are a few dead wax clicks, and this is the ONLY audio imperfection in the rest of the entire song!!  Sounds about like it came from the Old 1973 record store yesterday!.. 

Though Far More Likely, this 45 was Never Sold At All and you had to catch AUGUST WIND at the Buccaneer in Greenville, NC.. to ever acquire this Impossible Rarity at all!!

LAURIE rates a tad bit lesser in sound with the dead wax ticks slightly more prominent and intruding into the first 38 seconds, the plaintive flute solo portion, but this Does Not Overwhelm the music at all though!! 

After this, there is a very sporadic click here and there.. but Side #1 also has Superb Clarity and Just Super Sound Overall.. a Solid VG+... edging towards VG++

Both sides play beautifully indeed!! 

Ultra crisp clarity on both sides with no hiss, whoosh or over bearing back ground noise over the music at all, otherwise! 

Very, Very CRISP musical clarity that you will just love on this barely played 45 record! 

This glossy record appears to have been very, very lightly played, I suppose, but really there is very little visual evidence of wear at all really!!

 Very well cared for -- some few scattered light non-feelable marks & paper scuffs to the vinyl on both sides, which hardly impact the sound...

The worst flaws are all shown..

I'd call this the best sounding pressing that you are likely to ever encounter again, in your lifetime!!

Both sides sound (and look) in EX/EX- condition!!   Really Sounds About Like New!!

 

 Both LPs remain in EX condition with hardly any (really about no) visual evidence of play wear, no spindle hole markings... a few faint sporaradic light clicks, at the beginning of the dead wax only, but hardly any ticks at all really!! 

 

I'd call this the best sounding LP pressing that you are likely to encounter - not being freshly removed from the shrink!!

 

Has been ULTRA SONIC cleaned with TERGITOL, which removes every speck of groove dust and really, really makes a record sound fantastic!! 

 

Has been 100% PLAY TESTED with our Technics SL 3200 turntable for solid EX-/EX!!!

 

No warp present at all..and No Skips!!
