The First Annual National Music Ministry Conference left such a beautiful memory that it seemed difficult for the Second Annual National Music Ministry Conference to top the excitement and enthusiasm that was felt last year. However, to me and many others, the Second Annual National Music Ministry Conference will leave a lasting impression. So many spoken words and feelings In the spirit, songs, sermons, musicals, etc., have made a tremendous impact on the hearts of musicians throughout the United Pentecostal Church. Approximately 280 seminar participants were registered from over 23 states. This was an increase of 26 per cent over last year. Seminars were offered to returning seminar participants and also to first-time music ministry conference participants. Bro. Ewing's sermon on the opening night was a landmark in initiating the conference. The idea of going to Calvary either with Jesus or alone dramatically changed many lives and their concept of the purpose and value of music ministry. The Tuesday evening presentation was offered by the combined choirs of the First Pentecostal Church to an overflowing crowd. Many were standing around the walls in the rear entrances of the church to see whatever they could, for there was standing room only. The musical, "His Truth Is Marching On." gave a historical sketch of the 20th century outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God moved in a dramatic way, and hearts and lives were touched. Instructors for the seminars included Lanny Wolfe. Wayne Goodine. Ron Dansby. Marietta Wolfe, and Sharon Wade, all from Jackson College of Ministries - Larry Williamson from Soper Music Company,- Tupelo. Mississippi - Gerald Smith and Don Ellis, Multi-Media consultants from Jackson - Lance Roberts, LDR Sounds, Sulphur, Louisiana - Jeff Jeffrey, Choral Promotions. The Benson Company. Nashville. Tennessee - Jim Black. Nashville Representative for SESAC. The seminars ranged in context from music theory seminars and keyboard seminars to choral conducting seminars. An exciting moment was the presentation of the "Greater Is He" musical by Lanny Wolfe and Don Marsh featuring the songs of Lanny Wolfe and orchestrated and arranged by Don Marsh. Jeff Jeffrey, choral promotions director from the Benson Company, conducted the preview, and the spirit of God was felt in the strongest way. It was very moving to feel what we felt at the end of the musical with those attending joining hearts and voices together singing "Surely the Presence of the Lord is in This Place." Wednesday. Thursday, and Friday evening services were held at the City Auditorium. Many people turned out to the City Auditorium from all over the country to share in the excitement and joy that was felt there. Wednesday evening began with a concert by the Lanny Wolfe Trio followed by the Jackson College of Ministries choir and then the outstanding preaching of Rev. A.D. Spears whose sermon was entitled "Lift Up Your Heads. Oh Ye Gates." The power of God was strong, and Bro. Spears' ministry was at its apex. Thursday night at the City Auditorium unfolded with "A Night To Remember" in which eleven honored guests graced the platform, each making their contribution to a memorable evening. A three-screen multi media presentation accompanied a bio- graphical sketch of each of the honored guests including pictures from days gone by. It was so very special for us to honor Rev. C.M. Becton from Nashville.Tennessee, Sis. Helen Anderson Cole from Parkersburg. West Virginia. Rev. and Mrs. Murrell Ewing from Lake Charles. Louisiana,'Sis. Vesta Mangun from Alexandria. Louisiana. Sis. Emalie O'Brian from Starks. Louisiana. Rev. and Mrs. Norman Paslay from Cincinnati, Ohio, Rev. Hugh Rose from Cadiz, Ohio, and Rev. and Mrs. Nathaniel A. Urshan from Indianapolis. Indiana. After the service at the City Auditorium, folks were sent to the Ramada Inn Coliseum where 757 attended the banquet honoring the eleven Thursday evening guests. The food was exquisite, but the fellowship was even more exciting. Entertainment included a Biblical story by Diana Sittig and a skit by Jackson College of Ministries students impersonating the eleven honored guests. The skit revolved around the Stamps-Becton School of Music and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Friday night was the occasion for the Second Annual National Music Ministry Conference mass choir concert and featured the 400 voice mass choir and musicians gathered together as seminar participants along with the Jackson College of Ministries choir and the First Pentecostal Church choir. It was a very exciting evening and was well attended. Daily activities included inspiration sessions by Donald Fisher, T.L. Craft, Bob Benson, and Cleveland Becton. You hold in your hands just a small part of the memory of an exciting week.
