Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dear Listener: Since the organization of the Chattanooga Singers in 1968, our singing engagements have taken us to fifty-four cities in the United States and eight foreign countries included in four overseas tours. Some highlights have been a tour to the Soviet Union where we shared music, the universal language, and extended good will from the United States. Our students performed for cheering audiences in Moscow. Leningrad and Kiev. Portions of their Moscow concert were filmed for Soviet television. On this same trip, the Singers were privileged to visit Chattanooga s sister city , Hamm, Germany They were hosted in homes of the German people and performed seven concerts to overflowing and enthusiastic audiences. In May of 1972 and also in May of 1974 the Chattanooga Singers took concert tours of Great Britain and sang in many widely dispersed cities and towns. The response was most gratifying. In 1972 they sang for a crowd of 15,000 people at the famed Royal Albert Hall in London. BBC Radio and Television recorded them for several national broadcasts including the popular “Stars on Sunday in England". Their Christmas Concerts have been in collaboration with the First Presbyterian Church Choir of Chattanooga and an orchestra. These concerts were shown for the past six years on Chattanooga area television. The Singers have sung such major works as Mendelssohn s “Elijah". Handel’s Messiah , Haydn s “Creation", Hovhaness "Magnificat", the Bach Magnificat” and the Brahms’ “Requiem” Throughout our travels we have met many wonderful people and made thousands of friends. We count you as one of them and hope you enjoy our fourth album, “On Tour With the Chattanooga Singers” Sincerely, Dr. Glenn Draper Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities Cover photo was taken of The Chattanooga Singers in front of St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, U.S.S.R. by Larry W.
