Description
Offered here is a AN ORIGINAL 14" X 25" UNFOLDED ALBUM COVER PROOF FOR FLEETWOOD MAC'S 1977 ICONIC, SMASH ALBUM 'RUMOURS'.
The unfolded proof is printed on heavy coated cardstock (as the actual album would have been). The sheet has a minor ding on the left edge and some unimportant soiling on the reverse. It is otherwise in very good to excellent condition and VERY worthy of framing.
There were likely no more than a handful of these produced for proofing and souvenirs and as such are RARE. There were at least 13 Million 'Rumours' albums pressed by 1980 and it went on to sell in excess of 40 Million by 2009. Contrast that with the less than (most likely) a dozen or so of these unfolded album cover proofs in existence.
We haven't seen any in dealer stock or catalogs and none appear in the auction records apart from the few examples we've handled.
This is the chance to grab something truly scarce for the advanced Mac collector. This deserves a nice frame and a cherished spot on someone's wall.
Would make an EXCELLENT Holiday gift too !
WE BELIEVE WE HAVE THE BEST ORIGINAL FLEETWOOD MAC ITEMS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET.
Please see our other auctions for examples of the 'last of the best' of our inventory which includes the original artwork for Stevie's solo albums 'Bella Donna', 'Wild Heart' & 'The Other Side of The Mirror'.
Provenance:
This item is from personal effects of music industry and studio photographer Herbert Wheeler Worthington III. Following Worthington’s passing in November 2013, his personal items representing some 30 years of work became available and an important portion was acquired by us. Many of the items bear his personal label and or signature. Herbie had access to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks like no one else had. This unique access enabled him to obtain remarkable and iconic images for the years he worked for the band and Stevie in her solo career.
Worthington is most noted for having been the primary photographer for the 70’s pop rock iconic band Fleetwood Mac. Worthington photographed the band throughout their best and most challenging years and followed band members into their solo careers including Stevie Nicks. Worthington will be missed by all fans of Fleetwood Mac, however his spirit will carry on through the incredible body of imagery he left behind some of which is now available to share with the immense number of fans worldwide Fleetwood Mac has garnered over the past 40+ years. Their current US tour is a testament to their incredibly loyal fan base.
We won’t be offering many items although the lots we will offer here we feel are scarce, rare and important pieces of what most collectors of this type of memorabilia rarely have a chance to acquire. Few had the access to Fleetwood Mac the way Herbie did and for that reason, he has some amazing images and artifacts of the mid to late 70’s era of the band to the late 80's.
