Way back in 1987 and 1988 when Parlophone/Apple released the entire Beatles catalog on CD, they took advantage of the new hype and released the UK Beatles albums in vinyl digitized from the original analog tapes. This copy of "Past Masters Volumes One & Two" is the MONO version released in 1988 on Parlophone #79 1135 1 as a UK import to the US. Still sealed. Please note the wrap is not typical shrink wrap, but thicker plastic folded over on the side and glued in place (See back cover photo). It still includes the Import and price sticker on the outside and remains sealed as received.
The Past Masters albums were compiled by Mark Lewisohn (lucky him) and include mostly "leftover" album/EP tracks not found on the UK versions of Beatles albums. (Later re-issues of the album do not include this reference to Mark.) As another eBay seller stated... "Later releases are more common, but these true 1st releases are more rare due to the more popular compact disc released at the same time." Yeah, I've got those too.
I purchased this album and other c1987-88 albums from the Beatles catalog from Tower Records. The codes located in the upper righthand corner threw me off for a while. However, knowing the background to the release of this record now makes sense. Parlophone wanted to do everything to market the availability of these releases in the various formats. So, you have three icons with their corresponding codes -- vinyl (BPM 1), cassette tape (TC-BPM 1) and CD (CD-BPM 1&2). Kind of cool and used only on these first releases.

This, and similar albums I'll be posting, are from my personal collection and have been stored in an upright position in a smoke-free, controlled environment (my "music closet) since purchased.
