Description
Very rare to find first edition wide band groove box set. Decca SXL 2160 - 1 - 2 Sleeping Beauty - Ansermat - 3lp Box Set. Complete with booklet too.
Play tested - please fully read description below.
The three records - Visually the labels are excellent and the vinyl is still quite bright and clean. There are very fine and superficial hairlines to the surface but none of these (apart from anything detailed below) can be heard on playback. Generally the audio is crisp, bright and punchy with the usual slight, light pops and crackle heard more in the quieter passages.
Side 1 - light hairlines, nothing extra to report
Side 2 - light hairlines, there’s a small dull spot (see last photos) a quarter of the way in, a dull barely indistinguishable sound can just about heard on around 12 rotations. It doesn’t particularly detract.
Side 3 - light hairlines, nothing extra to report
Side 4 - light hairlines, nothing extra to report
Side 5 - light hairlines, there’s a small dull spot (see last photos) a quarter of the way in, a dull light repeating sound can be heard during the quieter passage it spans. It doesn’t particularly detract but is noticeable.
Side 6 - light hairlines as above, there’s a tiny raised spot about 3/5 of the way in. Too small to photograph. It causes a small tick to be heard in about six rotations.
The box has the remnants of old tape repairs to the corner splits as seen. I’ve removed the old brown tape and improved the corners by glueing neatly. More brown marks could be removed with some time and care.
There are three original inner sleeves as seen. One seems to be a different quality of paper used.
The booklet is coming apart as seen along the stapled spine.
As usual I’ll package very well, following the usual recommended packing methods to protect everything during transit. The box itself will provide good protection for the discs but I’ll add more card packing and layers too of course.
For overseas postage I only use eBay GSP.
