ULTRA RARE BUDDY HOLLY DEBUT "BLUE DAYS-BLACK NIGHTS"
DESCRIPTION:
On offer with no reserve… The rarest UK single by Buddy Holly titled "Blue days - Black nights." This is the original and highly sought after 1956 UK 1st pressing on the 1st press tri centred Brunswick label.
In 1956, 7inch 45RPM singles had yet to eclipse the format of 78RPM records. Only selective titles were made in the ‘new fangled’ 45rpm format with minute quantities of the more obscure artists receiving a pressing, the ones that did have the good fortune to receive a 45 release were not usually standard shop stock items and in some cases were obtained by customers on order.
Approximately only 500 copies of this highly important 45 were manufactured on the first press tri centre Brunswick 45 format. It is important to also note this 45 was released over a year before buddy’s breakthrough hit- "That'll be the day”.
It’s difficult to guess how many original clean copies of Blue Days Black nights are still in existence over 50 years down the line. With that said I have never seen a copy on eBay in better condition than this one. I have shown this copy to several other highly respected dealers who all agreed it was the best example they had seen. I hope the images and sound clip below illustrate just how special this copy really is.

CONDITION:
A note on grading I use the Record Collector grading system with the addition of a (+) or a (-) to denote a slight increase or decrease in condition. Items described with an aural grade have been carefully played on a Thorens TD-124 MKII with an SME 3012 Tonearm and Ortofon SPU moving Coil Cartridge.

Record:
The deeply seductive full glossy sheen of the surfaces feature a few non sounding paper scuffs only under direct angled light. The disk is flat with no warp or buckle of any kind. The wonderful Brunswick labels show light signs of use to the spindle hole only. There is no writing, rips, stickers or other detractors. The audio quality of this MONO pressing is a total joy, I have listened through both sides keenly and have asked the opinion of several other reputable dealers who’s collective knowledge totals some 40+ years in the business in addition to my own. The resultant grade of this copy of Blue Days Black Nights Is a solid EX (Excellent) condition…Please take the time to study the images above and listen to the sound clips which I hope illustrate the condition of this record far better than wordy descriptions.
(NB: The image of the disk angled to the light was supposed to show the full luster of the playing surface. Sadly it also shows some fluff and dust attracted to the disk by static after cleaning - Don't worry this will be removed and the disk de-stated prior to shipping
