Rare issue of the famous 1904/5 first Victor recordings by Caruso with piano. These were short lived and were replaced within 1-2 years by new recordings with orchestra acc. While the 1904 session was mostly 10" records, the 1905 session concentrated on extended 12" recordings

The young Caruso is very different from the later Caruso: A light, lyrical tenor with a brillian heroic voice and a glistening top. The acoustics of these recordings are breathtaking, immediate, all later recordings are muddy in comparison.

Since Enrico Caruso came from a poor family he was only with great difficulty able to afford the study of singing with Guglielmo Vergine in Naples. Caruso was, beyond doubt, the best known singing personality of his time. His voice was originally a lyric tenor, but capable of the most dramatic climaxes. His phenomenal tone production, the smoothness of his registers, the nobility of his acting and singing style are even today to be marvelled at on more than 200 records.
