CROWN
Cover - Shrink on. Shrink torn at corners, so browning at corners, bumps at corners. Bottom open end has about 1/2 inch seam split.
Vinyl - Gray labels, 3 5/8 inch diameter. Some rubs, light marks. Plays without problem.
Sleeve - Clear plastic.

The online consensus is this album was released in 1963, maybe October 2, 1963,
and the songs are a compilation of recordings from the 1950’s and early 1960’s. bsnpubs has background on CROWN and affiliated labels. Kent, Ace, RPM, Crown, United Superior and probably others either recorded or benefited from recordings from each other. Some of the songs on this LP may never have been released until on here.
“Please Remember Me” may be from 1952, on an ACE 45.
The pressing rings and label diameters may indicate this was pressed by Custom Record Mfg, LA CA, of whom I can find very little. Credit vinyldiscovery for even knowing they existed.
Most of these songs feature a couple horns, bass, drums, organ backing BB.
But the emphasis is on his guitar and splendid, plaintive, insistent, voice.

Cover - Shrink on. Price tags on shrink. No writing. Virtually no shelving/handling evidence. 50 years old but just a trace of ring wear.
Vinyl - Some rubs/smudges. Nothing affecting play.

Sure was nice that in the 1960’s and 1970’s you could get outstanding BB King records at a discount price. This is a better-quality recording than we are to expect from a budget label. Research indicates these songs were recorded from 1952 to 1956. Memphis, Houston and L A, are the likely sites. This is an outstanding group of songs.
bsnpubs leads us on a merry chase when looking this record up. Originally released in 1957 or so on CROWN 5020, but listed as not released by RPM records about that time. Numerous companies operated as one source for these classic albums. bsnpubs has these labels running from 1969-1971, so that’s what I used to date this release.
The CS-1071 in the Deadwax, which is crossed through, suggests the CUSTOM label, another in this budget family, was involved.
This is BB King in his late 20’s - early 30’s with various horns, bass, drums pouring it on with that unmistakable voice and Lucille giving us everything we could hope for. BB had it down by this time and was in control for these recordings.
