Various- Hauraki Homegrown Eighty LP (Ripper RPR 002)
Two early NZ indies from the post punk era, We'll Do Our Best dates from 1983 while Hauraki Homegrown goes back to 1980.We'll Do Our Best is a mix of post punk, ska, synth pop and new wave with the highlights being future Flying Nun band Eight Living Legs turning in a KBD Killed By Death worth "No Cheap Ride" and the minimal wave of Car Crash Set's "Toys".
Hauraki Homegrown is on the important NZ punk label Ripper which was the label that brought forth Proud Scum, Terrorways and The Spelling Mistakes; this album is a mixed bag with some genuinely fine power pop from Valintinos and Screaming Mee Mees and a nice Clash influenced track from Top Scientists.
