Verdi & Rossini VL 46006 / Wagner VL 46018
HALFSPEED MASTERED Special RC 320
Shrink has begun to come away from the top of the Wagner album but is still sealed on the record storing side.
Each album has a sticker on the reverse side that says "Special RC 320". One even says Fabrique en Italie Distribution RCA France. Additionally, the reverse side of these covers contain a brief description of how these albums were recorded using Halfspeed Mastering.
In cutting the production master of the present disc a technique was employed known as "Half-Speed Mastering:, that is the tape containing the music and the cutting turn-table are run at half the usual speed. This process, at once more time-consuming and expensive, assures a more precise master recording, especially in the high frequencies, and therefore a stereophonic reproduction marked by a wider dynamic range and a more sharply etched sound. In this way, those distorsions are avoided which are sometims found in certain particualarly delicate recordings cut at actual speed.
