Roman Gosz was a Czech- American polka musician, trumpeter, and band leader (b. August 2, 1910 in Grimms, Wisconsin – d. August 29, 1966 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, USA) Gosz was the fourth of seven children of Paul and Anna Gosz. A self-taught piano player, he also taught himself the trumpet when his band needed a trumpet player in 1931. In 1921, Paul Gosz formed the Paul Gosz Orchestra, which included Roman (then 11) and his older brothers, George and Mike. At age 18, Roman took over the band from his brother George, who had led it since 1926. The band first recorded in 1931 for the Broadway label. Being hugely popular in Wisconsin, they got their first recording contract with a major label, Columbia, in 1933. Between 1934 and 1936, he recorded for Okeh and Vocalion, then for Decca (1936-1939). After World War II, he was picked up by the Mercury label.
