These LPs highlight two of the most talented and versatile musicians in the music business. Mickey Baker was a sideman in countless recording sessions covering a vast range of styles. " ... this is the first time that Mickey Baker has had a chance to show off his virtuosity on guitar on his own album... an opportunity to display both his arranging talent and his musical ideas. It's an unusual album, a blend of both jazz and pop, backed by a solid beat... playing with the exuberance and drive of a caged bird who finally gets free, and occasionally a softer, even tender Mickey, showing off the emotional side... one of the most exciting guitarists on today's musical scene..." Similarly, King Curtis was a perfectionist, and (for me) his ability on his instrument - tenor sax/saxello - is exemplary in every sense of the term. "... a unique performance captured in these microgrooves. It is a near-perfect marriage of artistry, material and mood... from the occasional calculated cacophony to the frequent subtle nuances, to the soul-moving harmonies and hard-driving disciplined rhythms..."
** if you are a Blues collector, you will find we are putting hundreds of vintage blues LPs up for auction over the coming year. My husband is grudgingly downsizing his massive collection which he has acquired over the past 40 years and you should find these listings worth considering. Because he was the only owner of these LPs and he had too many to listen to, they were played very, very little and are all in excellent condition. Mark this site as a 'favorite seller' or email if you have any questions, and thanks for looking!
