LP : 2. Österreichisches Amateur-Jazzfestival 1963

Original Austrian pressing from 1963 on AMADEO, AVRS 9107. Has a recordsized insert with lots of infos about the musicians on both sides. Recorded march 9th & 10th 1963 at “Grosser Saal des Wiener Konzerthauses” ( = “Large Room of theVienna Concert Hall”). The first side has the traditional jazz style, it's quiet interesting that a very young Radu Malfatti is member of the “Twilight Stompers”.

The second side has exclusively great modern jazz. All groups were found between 1959 to 1962, most of the players are pretty young and there's something real fresh and amazingly modern in their playing. Some highlights of side 2: the “Dr.Neuwirth Trio” track has great soli by Adelhard Roidinger on bass and Erich Bachträgl on drums, the “Josel Trio” performs with an unconventional line-up for 1963 of trombone/bass/drums (they were rewarded the first place of the festival), the New Austrian Big band includes the Josel Trio plus Dieter Glawischnig on piano, Hermann Ledl plays great vibes etc. There are a couple of names wich appear here for the first time on record, several of these “amateurs” became professionals soon after and played in important Euro-Jazz groups and were part of essential European jazz-recordings throughout the years, many are still busy today.

side 2: vienna jazz group, wien/satz aus der suite nr.1 - glawischnigg trio, graz/exploration I - dr. neuwirth trio, graz/2. und 3. satz aus der festival suite - josel trio, graz/ringin’ boats - new austrian big band, graz/half past eleven & moten stomp

Condition: the record looks ex- in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks vg+ to vg under a very strong halogen lamp, there are hairlines and a few small marks, the original PVC inner-sleeve has left superficial visual impressions. It plays in mint- for the most with just a few occasional singular tics, mostly behind the music and only very few a little more prominent; overall playgrading is vg++.

The fully laminated cover shows just slightest shelfwear, all seams/spine are intact with just slightest rub in very few spots, front & back are fine, slight ringwear due to tight & small cover-dimension, tiny punch-hole upper left; overall in mint--/ex++, outstanding condition considering it's age of more than 50 years. The insert is in ex ( punchhole).

Zustand: die LP sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe ex- ausmint- bis mint-- aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie vg+ bis vg aus ( hairlines und einige kleinere marks, die originale PVC Hülle hat ein paar oberflächliche Abdrücke hinterlassen). Sie spielt überwiegend in mint- mit nur einigen gelegentlichen vereinzelten tics, mehr hinter der Musik und nur sehr wenige etwas hörbarer; insgesamt akkustisch in vg++.

Das komplett laminierte Cover hat nur ganz leichte Lagerspuren, alle Kanten sind intakt mit ganz leichtem Abrieb an einigen wenigen Stellen, Vorder- & Rückseite sind sehr schön erhalten, leichtes ringwear durch das enge & recht kleine Cover-Maß, “punch-hole” in der oberen linken Ecke ; insgesamt in ex++, hervorragender Zustand wenn man das Alter von über 50 Jahren bedenkt. Das Beiblatt ist in ex+ (punchhole).

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
