Description
I've inherited some very old records, many of which are over 100 years old. I'm learning about them and it's fascinating.
From the collection I have three records that were made by LEEDS Records, which I'd never heard of so I looked it up. Here is some information on it.
Leeds Talk-O-Phone was a record label, producing cylinders from 1894 to 1903 and single-sided lateral-cut disc phonograph records in the United States of America from about 1902 to 1909. Leeds Records were produced by the Talk-O-Phone Company of Toledo, Ohio, owned by Wynant van Zant Pierce Bradley and Albert Irish. They are famous for their embossed gold foil centers. They went out of business after losing a lawsuit to Victor Records in 1909.
Here are the titles and description of each record in this grouping:
Teasing by H. Tally, Catalog No. 4147. There are scratches and a couple tiny chips on the outside edge and a couple minor gouges.
Husking Bee by Spencer & Orch. Catalog No. 4055. There are scratches and a couple chips and some minor gouges.
Scissors to Grind by Collins, Catalog No. 4175. There are scratches and several gouges toward the middle and the end. I would think these might cause a problem in playability. But I heard these types of things can be repaired too.
Note: I'm not a grader of these items but would consider them to be in fair condition, though possibly restorable. I have not tested them for playability. Their value would be in how hold they are, and that they are out of circulation and the titles are unique without others listing the same ones for sale.
