Description

This is a lot of three double-sided 78 rpm Fonotipia records featuring the tenor Giuseppe Anselmi. They were all signed on both sides by Anselmi with a stylus before the shellac cooled. First, a note on Fonotipia signatures - many Fonotipia labels bear "signatures", applied with ink from rubber stamps. But, many Fonotipia artists also signed in the cooling shellac during the manufacturing process. Any examination of these signatures makes it clear that these signatures are genuine; differences of size, stylus pressure, etc. are evident. All three of these records are 10.75" in size, with raised outer and inner bands. Included are: 1.) Fonotipia No. A3523 consisting of No. 62162, "Siciliana" from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni (matrix xpl 2573) and No. 62163, "Ah! non mi ridestar" from Werther by Massenet (matrix xpl 2567). This recording is in excellent condition and Anselmi's distinctive circular signature is clearly visible on both sides. 2.) No. 362, consisting of No. 62394, "Se il mio nome" from Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini (matrix xph 4055m6) and No. 62395, "M'appari, tutto amor" from Marta by Flotow (matrix xph 4059m6). The record is in excellent condition, though the Anselmi signatures are mostly obscured by the labels. The record carries the label "Made for the Fonotipia Companies" printed in the shellac. 3.) No. 2548, consisting of No. 62268, "Ecco ridente in cielo" from Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini (matrix xph 2820) and No. 62279, "Addio Mignon" from Mignon by Thomas (matrix xph 2870). The record carries the label "Made for the Fonotipia Companies" printed in the shellac.The record is in excellent condition, with the Anselmi signatures mostly visible, only slightly affected by the labels.
