"The Brains" 1980 At the time of issuance the album made a great impression on Billboard critics. In the review of May 3 1980, they wrote: "This is a truly offbeat album which mixes '60s organ dominated psychedelia, new wave, heavy metal and world savvy lyrics into an intoxicating brew. Tom Gray's passionate vocals have enough aural sprawl and power to make the lyrics credible."

Electronic Eden 1981 Robert Christgau thought that "despite its dull initial impact every track will give up a hook."[2] Trouser Press wrote: "Lillywhite concocts a thick, heavy sound that subjugates [Tom] Gray’s synthesizers and Rick Price’s aggressive guitars to the tunes themselves. And for good reason: Gray’s songs are tart accounts of love and confusion perfectly suited to his dry, sardonic voice."[6] The New York Times wrote that "the lyrics delineate urban landscapes and some strangely disturbing situations - a man whose friend has been traumatized by an accident, a couple who are in love but keep getting on each other's nerves - vividly and economically."

Backstory: I was lucky enough to see the Brains at the Blue Note in Boulder, Colorado back in the early 80's). We were the 2nd people in line before they opened the doors and were talking to the New Wave-attired group of guys in front of us...not realizing it was THE BAND themselves. Michael Richards -'Kramer' from Seinfeld- was the opening comedian and ended up sitting with us at our table right in front of the stage! An hour later I was a huge fan of the band's work and spent the next few months searching for their discography. I've had these discs for almost 40 years now and just got rid of my last turntable, so I'm hoping some Brains fan (or future fan) will treat these as well as I have and enjoy this under-rated band of talented musicians. Some great songs that never saw radio airplay (at least here in the 'states).
