320 pages. 170 portraits with accompanying text. A limited number (313) of hand stamped/numbered copies were only ever available from Carharrt stores worldwide.
These have long since sold out making this heavy duty, beautifully presented coffee-table book a rare collectors item. Retail price of book was £60 so item has been listed for not much more than it cost when it was available to buy from Carharrt.
The book was produced by Berlin based photographer Marie Staggat and her enigmatic “313ONELOVE” book is an extensive picture love letter to Detroit’s influential electronic music scene. With more than 170 portraits, her book captures some of the most influential techno and house artists from Motor City, plus a string of profound stories about some selected artists and quotes by them on their hometown and its rich musical history. Her images are not just regular portraits of the artists in their living environment. Instead Staggat decided to shoot close-up pictures of each featured DJ, musician and producer, as their hands and ears represent the fundamental “tools” for all their creative output. Detroit has been an inspiration to and definition of music history since the late 1950ees with a wide range of styles from Jazz to soul, funk, rock and hip-hop. The latest heavy contribution to the global music culture has been house and techno – two genres that would not exist the way they do without the groundbreaking Detroit based artists that Staggat features in her book. Furthermore her publication is not only a heartfelt dedication to electronic music made in largest city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is also a charity project that will support Detroit based children of all ages, who all do share a strong passion and love for music.
Featured artists in “313ONELOVE” are Amp Fiddler, Carl Craig, Claude Young, Chez Damier, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Dez Andres, Juan Atkins, Kenny Larkin, Kevin Saunderson, Mad Mike Banks, Mike Huckaby, Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.), Marcellus Pittman, Anthony Shake Shakir and Robert Hood amongst others.
