Although the record maintains most of its gloss and there aren't any serious marks or scratches, the record is not in perfect condition. I think it has been stored in a vertical pile for years, causing some groove wear. The record doesn't jump or skip, nor are there any particularly loud tics. The records plays with a lot of crackly noises, at inconsistent frequency. I would say that during 95% of the time, these crackly noises and/or soft ticks don't overpower the sound of the violin-the latter almost always being louder, crisp and enjoyable. More importantly, there's no hiss. To be more specific, I playgraded the record track by track:

Side 1:

Band I - Grave: VG: a few soft tics in the middle and end section, moderate crackly noises;

Band II – Fuga: VG+: starts fine, gets more crackly towards the end;

Band III – Andante: EX-: minor surface noise, occasional non-intrusive soft crackly noises;

Band IV - Allegro: EX(-): plays even better than Band III, but some audible imperfections towards the end.

Side B:

Band I - Allemanda: VG-: quite crackly, at times a little intrusive;

Band II - Corrente: VG-: more or less the same as Band I;

Band III – Sarabanda: VG-: starts off with somewhat severe crackly noises, gets better;

Band IV - Giga: VG-: as Band I and II;

Band  V - Ciaccona: VG(-): probably the best Band of side two, but still rather crackly I’m afraid.

END VERDICT: This is a so-so copy of this rare and collectable record: not up to collector's standards, but definitely better than a collection filler. Side A plays crisp and is very enjoyable, side B does too, but you can't escape the fact that you are listening to a record…

Sleeve: VG: intact but overall ring wear, light creases and some discolouration at the back, see pictures. Acceptable sleeve.

GRADING

Near Mint (NM) This is the highest grading and means that the record or sleeve is in flawless condition. I grade strictly, so NM- is usually as high as it gets. An inaudible paper scuff or a very lightly worn corner will lead to the record/sleeve being graded as NM-.

Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have very minor wear and/or creasing. Any flaws will be mentioned in the description.

Very Good (VG) The record has been played many times and displays slight deterioration in sound quality. There are noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches, but they do not necessarily affect play. Normal wear and tear on the cover, without any major defects, is acceptable. Any flaws will be mentioned in the description.

Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and/or scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc. Any flaws will be mentioned in the description. Records in this condition will only be listed if they are very collectable.
