33CX 1711 TCHAIKOVSKY Violin Concerto LEONID KOGAN Blue Gold 1st = SAX 2323
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto / Meditation in D Minor.
Leonid Kogan (violin) with Constantin Silvestri and Orchestre de la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire.Original 1960 UK pressed EMI Columbia Records mono LP, 33CX 1711.
Earliest heavy duty pressing, dark blue label with gold print.
Vinyl visually top end EX. Even with the aid of a magnifying glass it is difficult to detect any spider trail marks around the spindle areas and the labels are glossy as new. The playing surfaces still have a very high gloss and display just two or three superficial hairline scuff marks.
Playback is bright and clean and the LP is not groove damaged. There is no underlying background noise and there are no clicks or ticks. There is occasionally some very minor, low-level and short-lived crackle which does not appear to be caused by any marks to the vinyl. I take this to be dust crackle, as during playback I had to remove built up dust from the stylus a few times. With repeated plays I can only see room for improvement, but as it stands the LP still provides a very comfortable listening experience with background noise never being a distraction.
The paper inner sleeve is original and in close to EX condition, although the original poly inner has been neatly removed.
External sleeve a solid EX with no faults of note and just very light shelving/handling rubbing.
A chance to acquire a very solid mono issue of this LP for a reasonable price - the stereo can fetch a four figure sum on a good day.
