3 Record 78 RPM 10" Album Set: Victor P-2 - Original 1938 Camden Pressing - "Six Of The Best Known Christmas Carols" Directed by Lew White

Comments: Fully play tested. This is the original issue pressing. The record labels tell that story but an even bigger clue is the fact that the inside back cover does not promote albums that were released 10 years after the original release date like many copies for sale do. Lew White is given credit for playing the organ, but the mixed chorus and the violin and harp players are uncredited. Most of the songs contain instrumental bridges that can be as moving as the singing. You can see the song titles listed on the album cover as well as the photos of the records.
Record Condition (For the Eyes): I graded these records high end VG+. The discs are plenty glossy but they do have light surface scuffs. They are very nice looking records.
Record Condition (For the Ears): They all play with no skips or sticks of course. The sound of the music is loud and clear. General background record surface noise crackle is mostly mild relative to the elevated output level of the music. There were very, very few light ticks along the way. I think you will agree that the records reproduce the sound excellently and provide a satisfying, uplifting listen. (I play-test on a Newcomb school-style phonograph with a 3 mil stylus.)
Sound Sample: I've uploaded a video sound sample. It is a major part of the description of this record. My video was limited to two minutes so I included 40 seconds of a side from each record. If you hear static-click sounds when the view changes in the video, it is most likely from my phone microphone reacting to the movement and not in the music. You might have to view the sound sample on a computer (might not show up on a phone).
Labels Condition: The labels are very nice looking with only light wear. The text is easy to read. The graphics look great. There are no stickers, tape or writing on the labels.
Sleeve Type and Condition: The album that holds the records is in VG condition. There is some general wear and some discoloration/darker spots on the front and back. There are miscellaneous small marks/stains plus a larger stain near the center of the front. There is some writing on the cover and on two of the inside attached sleeves that appears to be in pencil. A previous owner wanted to make sure that everybody knew they loved this set when they wrote "Don't Sell" and their name. The album shows some edge and corner wear. The spine/binding looks pretty good and is still intact and holding well. Inside the album is pretty clean. The sleeves are intact and attached well. I saw a tiny tear at the top of one sleeve. The inside back cover contains a restricted use notice. As mentioned previously, a lot of copies that you see of this album are reissues that show a big list inside the back cover of other Victor albums that were released years after this original issue was. This is album P-2. There was no big list of albums to show when this was originally released.

A word on costs for safely shipping shellac 78 RPM records: They are fragile and easily breakable. (You know that!) If shipped in packaging that would be perfectly safe for a vinyl record, the chance of breakage is pretty good. I pack shellac 78's in an oversize box. The record is sandwiched between custom corrugated cardboard pads. The padded record is wrapped in bubble wrap for shock absorption. The whole bundle is surrounded by other padding such as wadded newspaper, packing peanuts and/or air pillows for a safe journey through the postal system. Proper packing materials cost me a bundle per package and the costs keep going up. On top of that, another pile of money is needed to buy the USPS media mail postage. Shipping costs are very real and add up to more than most people realize. It might not be apparent to you, but the amount that I ask you to pay for shipping is actually less than what it actually costs me to ship a record.

If appropriate I will add insurance coverage. Sometimes I will add signature tracking (USA) when your item is shipped. Signature tracking ensures that the postal service doesn't leave your valuable item unattended on your doorstep out in the sun or rain - it has to be handed over face to face. If you order something rare and/or worth a bit, be prepared to have to accept delivery in person.

When multiple items are shipped together, I can almost always give you a better deal on the shipping cost compared to the individual shipping costs. I promise to give you the best rate possible based on the items purchased and the shipping method required.
