Description

This auction is for four superb condition blues LPs, for the true blues enthusiast! The first is titled “Jugs 1927-1933! Volume 4” and is a limited edition pressing from The Origin Jazz Library. Blues writer Sam Charters’ sleeve notes are included in a separate booklet, along with a list of other OJL releases dated “fall-winter 1965”. The jug bands featured in these rare recordings are Cannon’s Jug Stompers, Memphis Minnie & Her Jugs Band, Birmingham Jug Band, Jack Kelly & His South Memphis Jug Band, Whistler & His Jug Band, Memphis Jug Band, Elder Richard Bryant’s Sanctified Singers, Dixieland Jug Blowers, Kentucky Jug Band, Noah Lewis’s Jug Band and Memphis Shieks. Eleven tracks in total - a real treat! The second record is from the Blues Classics series, titled “Blues Classics by The Jug, Jook and Washboard Bands”. Fourteen tracks from the Memphis Jug Band, Dallas Jug Band, Dixieland Jug Blowers, Walter Taylor’s Washboard Band, Mississippi Jook Band, Chasey Collins’ Washboard Band, the brilliant Washboard Sam, Washboard Rhythm Kings, Birmingham Jug Band and Ed Kelly’s Washboard Band. Does exactly what it says on the tin! The third record is another from Blues Classics, titled “Juke Joint Blues”. It’s fourteen tracks are from Eddie Burns, Ernest “Buddy” Lewis, Harvey Hill Jnr., Mr. Honey, L.C. Williams with Lightnin’ Hopkins, Lightning Leon, Alvin Smith, Dr. Hepcat, Sonny Boy Holmes, Arthur “Big Boy” Spires, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Jimmy Wilson and Square Walton. The fourth LP is the well-known Arhoolie release, “I Have To Paint My Face”, which features the music of Sam Chatman, Butch Cage & Willie Thomas, Jasper Love, Kathryn Pitman, Wade Walton and R.C. Smith. The sleeve notes are included in a separate booklet, with the lyrics to every track and photos of some of the featured artists.
