Description
This lot contains four 10-inch 78 RPM records by Cab Calloway and his Orchestra, all considered "hot" enough for inclusion in Brian Rust's iconic Hot Jazz Discography, and/or in Charles Delaunay's "New Hot Discography." (The two Vocalions made Brian Rust's cutoff date of 1942, but the Columbias didn't.)
All four records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown individually, both sides, in the following order. Vocals are by Cab Calloway unless otherwise indicated.
Columbia # 36786 -- "Foo a Little Bally-Hoo" and "Let's Take the Long Way Home" (Both sides listed in Delaunay, with a recording date of January 24, 1945.)
Columbia # 37312 -- "Hi-De-Ho Man" and "Necessity" (Both sides listed in Delaunay, with a recording date of February 3, 1947.)
Vocalion # 5062 -- "Utt da Zay" and "Crescendo in Drums" (instrumental) (Both sides listed in Rust and Delaunay, with a recording date of July 17, 1939.)
Vocalion # 4700 -- "Ad-De-Day" and "Ratamacue" (instrumental) (Both sides listed in Rust and Delaunay, with a recording date of February 20, 1939.)
They could all use a good cleaning, but are otherwise in lightly to moderately played condition, most of them still relatively shiny, but with varying degrees of visible surface wear. They all played through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, with varying degrees of background noise, most of it light to moderate, but also including some pops and clicks and short passages of ticking. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
