The 4 Strangers – Sad and Lonely 7” (orig. Australia Festival MONO FK-1022, SAMPLE RECORD NOT FOR SALE)
Release date: July 1965.
On offer here is an EXTREMELY RARE original Australian FESTIVAL issue of the second 7” single by Newcastle band, THE FOUR STRANGERS. This band evolved into THE SUNSETS and eventually became TAMAM SHUD. “Sad and Lonely” is a snarly garage beat number written by lead vocalist & rhythm guitarist LINDSAY BJERRE, while the flipside is a HOLLIES cover. The A-side was later included on the “Ugly Things (Volume 1)” Raven compilation. Be sure to check out the YouTube link below!

Record:
visual: beautiful glossy sheen despite NUMEROUS scuffs & ‘tiny’ surface scratches, which are superficial for the most part (“Sad and Lonely” also has a very mild haze in a few small spots & two more prominent surface scuffs across disc) (side 1: FAIR / side 2: G+). A GAP-FILLER UNTIL A BETTER COPY TURNS UP - IMPOSSIBLY RARE IN ANY CONDITION - GOOD LUCK TRYING TO FIND ANOTHER!
audible: SOUNDS HOT despite some underlying surface noise and very infrequent (and mainly insignificant) background pops, a few light pops can also be heard at very end of “Sad and Lonely” (side 1: VG- downgraded slightly because of minor flaws - being fussy here, but mainly sounds VG / side 2: VG+). PLAYS THROUGH WITHOUT ANY JUMPS OR SKIPS - PLAYED FROM BEGINNING TO END!
labels: light to moderate spindle wear / “SAMPLE RECORD NOT FOR SALE” red bullet sticker, staining & residue from successful removal of name label (side 2).
sleeve: original transparent 1960’s “Festival Records”.
I HAVE ONLY EVER OWNED ONE COPY OF THIS HIGHLY COLLECTABLE 45 SINCE 1987 AND I WILL BE SAD TO LET IT GO. THE MINIMUM BID HAS BEEN SET AT A VERY REASONABLE $99 DUE TO THE LOWER GRADING. GENUINE NEAR MINT COPIES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO FETCH $500+, SO PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN BIDDING. BEST OF LUCK!
