Description
The seller I bought it from has written Pekin, IL 5/68 on the sleeve. That seems rather specific to me, so I'm gonna go with it. Sometimes cool '66 sounding stuff came out a bit later. The flip does sound a little more like '67 - so they were only a year off with that one! Regardless of whether it was outdated at the time of its release, it sure holds up well NOW and that's all that matters. A-Side "I Want Her Back" is simply a POUNDER of a tune. Frantic as all hell breakin' loose, yet manages to sound skin tight at the same time - tuff-as-nails. What really grabs ya, besides the pulsating bass lines, swirling Farfisa organ and loads of FUZZ guitar is the unbridled enthusiasm of the singer's, "Oh Yeeeaaahhh!!!" whoops as the song gets outta control yet again, just as you think it was gonna let up. When I bought a couple of copies 12 and 15 years ago, they weren't overly pricey, but have noticed it going for a lot more recently. That being said, gonna start it high and keep lowering it if nobody wants it. Comped on the Chicago edition of "Highs in the Mid-Sixties." Man, this 'un would KILL it at a hip 60's retro party.

The flipside, "Things Will change" is not a total disappointment, unless strictly into the pre-Proto Punk stuff. This starts out with a jangly guitar line similar to one of the early STONES ballads, "As Tears Go By," (or may "Out of Time") then gets more upbeat, adding a sorta BEACH BOYS harmony with mega echo/reverb, think WALKER BROTHERS. Compiled on the Illinois volume of "Psychedelic States." Wouldn't be surprised if it turned up on a comp of 60's Pop / light Psych like "Every Groovy Day" or "Fading Yellow."
