Description
The 45rpm vinyl record from Sun Records featuring Warren Smith's "Ubangi Stomp" and "Black Jack David" Released in 1956, this rockabilly single is a first pressing verified by matrix and in VG+ condition in my opinion.
The record is in English and by some reports contains the "N" word. Other interpretations say the "N" is natives and not the actual "N" word. I grew up in the south and they definately felt it was the real "N" word and would not air it. I've listened to it multiple times and it's questionable at best, reflecting the language and style of the 1950s era.
This negative attention may be why this, his 2nd single, did not do as well as his first. Competition at the label was steep at that time with efforts being focused on someone who created even more scandal, Jerry Lee Lewis.
Recorded at the famous 706 Union Avenue studio in Memphis, it features Brad Suggs on guitar and Smokey Joe Baugh on piano and production overseen by Mr Phillips himself.
Catalog number of 250 and a vinyl matrix number of U-219-45, this single is a valuable addition to any music collection, perfect for a house party or for listeners of classic rock and rockabilly. It's great to dance to!
