Rarest and most sought British only SAVOY BROWN release on the famed DECCA (Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound) label ((minty clean)) collectible with great laminated sleeve ...SAVOY BROWN's first and one of their very best albums, released in 1967, back when they were known as the "SAVOY BROWN BLUES BAND" ... in the TOP league of famous UK white blues-boom rockers, SHAKE DOWN features an irresistable tight, electrified sound that chills to the bone, a sound worthy of spins over and over again....
Kim assembled a multiracial band in 1965/66 and by 1967 had recorded "Shake Down". It's a traditional blues album that is very reminiscent of Getting to the Point, Savoy Brown's second album (first in America). Shake Down consists mostly of electrified blues rockers with a great edge and spark, one of the best tracks is "Doormouse Rides the Rails", featuring the band's first-rate second guitarist, Martin Stone. His interplay with Savoy Brown guitarist (& band leader) Kim Simmonds on such tracks as "It's All My Fault," "Shake 'Em on Down," and especially on the traditional blues opus "Black Night" are among the high points of the album. Singer Bryce Portius (one of the first blacks to front a British blues band) works very well for this material. His highlights include the Howlin' Wolf classic "I Ain't Superstitious," and the Willie Dixon-penned tune, "Little Girl". Kim is already showing maturity beyond his teenage years in terms of track selection and musical direction; as a guitarist, he shows his chops very nicely on "Shake 'Em On Down," already clearly grasping the less-is-more concept that makes for great blues. His playing in these early years is still somewhat limited, otherwise we'd be looking at a timeless classic. Shake Down is a blues gem that will have you shaking it on down with the best of them!!!

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): THERE WILL BE SIGNS THAT THE RECORD WAS PLAYED AND HANDLED BUT WITH GOOD CARE TAKEN. THERE MAY BE SOME VERY LIGHT SCRATCHES OR SCUFFS THAT AREN’T NOTICEABLE WHILE LISTENING. SLEEVE MIGHT HAVE SOME DISCOLORATION AND RING WEAR. A VG+ RECORD IS A VERY ACCEPTABLE RECORD WITH ONLY A FEW THINGS WRONG WITH IT.
VERY GOOD (VG): THE PROBLEMS IN A VG+ RECORD BECOME MORE EVIDENT IN A VG RECORD. SURFACE NOISE MAY BE HEARD DURING PLAYBACK BUT WON’T BE OVERPOWERING. MORE GROOVE WEAR WILL BE NOTICEABLE AND THERE MIGHT BE SOME DEEPER SCRATCHES THAT AFFECT THE SOUND. LABELS MIGHT HAVE STICKERS OR TAPE ON THEM.
GOOD (G), GOOD PLUS (G+): WILL PLAY THROUGH WITHOUT SKIPPING AND GROOVE WEAR AND SURFACE NOISE WILL BE CONSIDERABLE. THE SLEEVE MIGHT HAVE SEAM SPLITS, WRITING, RING WEAR AND MORE TAPE ON IT THAN A VG RECORD. WE GENERALLY DON’T LIST RECORDS AT GOOD OR GOOD PLUS UNLESS ONLY THE RECORD ITSELF OR THE SLEEVE IS IN THIS CONDITION WHILE THE OTHER IS AT A HIGHER GRADE.
POOR (P), FAIR (F): HEAVY WEAR. RECORD IS CRACKED, BADLY WARPED AND SKIPS DURING PLAYBACK. SLEEVES ARE SPLIT ON ALL SIDES, WATER DAMAGED, AND HAVE A LOT OF WRITING. WE DON’T LIST POOR OR FAIR CONDITIONED RECORDS.
