Description
This 6 Album "THE JOLSON STORY" LP Decca Collector's Set features six high-fidelity vinyl records by artist Al Jolson, showcasing his vocal jazz and pop style from the 1912 and 1950s. This special edition collector's set includes a compilation of The Jolson Story with all songs in English, presented in a multicolor cardboard sleeve, most still in plastic sleeves. With a 33-1/3 RPM speed and 12" record size, this LP is a must-have for fans of vintage music looking to enjoy the iconic vocals of Al Jolson.
There are 82 songs total on all these 6 albums, most featuring 14 pieces each. Al Jolson was a Lituanian-born American singer, comedian, actor and vaudevillian. His career ranged from 1886-1950 when he died at the age of 64. He sang jazz, blues, ragtime and pop and was the star of the "Jazz Singer" in 1927 that was the first talking picture out of Hollywood. He has been referred to by critics as "the king of blackface performers". He starred in a series of successful musicals during the 30's on both Broadway and films and and after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, he was the first star to entertain troops overseas and also later during Korean War.
I have not listed the entire lists of the songs but if you zoom in on the album back covers you can read them all. This is an amazing collection and all records are in near mint condition with no signs of scratches or age. I recently purchased them at an estate sale where everything in the home was collectible and in near mint condition. If you look at prices in listings for these individual albums, you will see that this is a true bargain for all six and a perfect buy for any true collector of great music.
