6 (SIX) VINTAGE CHRISTMAS THEMED 45s ~ MANY CLASSICS ~ MAKES A GREAT GIFT
I've been going thru my massive vinyl record collection this summer and pulling out some records that I thought that someone else would want for their collection. I've been collecting records for over 40 years and it's time to pass some of them on to the next generation of collectors.
It's coming up on the Holiday season and I thought that someone would like these cool, old, vintage pressings of some Christmas Classics. This is a nice group of 6 vintage Christmas themed 45s. 
There are some "classics" and they would be a fun addition to anyone's Record collection.
In the current vinyl collecting world of colored vinyl, box sets, limited pressings, audiophile pressings and other hype, it's always nice to go back to experience the simple way it was done in the old days. These would make a great, nostalgic, interesting gift for anyone who collects records. Cool, old, classic, timeless, Christmas 45 records.
They are all in decent condition, VG+ at worst and a few in much better condition. See the full description of the vinyl condition below.
Here's a little description of each of these cool, vintage 'Christmas' 45s:
~~~~~ ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS "THE CHIPMUNK SONG" b/w "ALMOST GOOD" LABEL: F-55168
1958 First Pressing, Blue label, high quality Monarch pressing
The Chipmunks; Alvin, Simon and Theodore, and the The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) were created by Ross Bagdasarian ('David Seville') for Liberty Records in 1958. Bagdasarian learned how to create Novelty records by playing with the Speed of recording tape and created the Chipmunks using his own voice. As a joke, they were named after his Bosses at Liberty.
The label wasn't sure how the record would be received, so the First pressings were just called 'The Chipmunk Song' leaving off the 'Christmas Don't Be Late' which appeared on most later pressings.
The record was an unexpected smash hit and launched the careers of its chipmunk stars. It reached #1 and won 3 Grammy Awards as well as a nomination for Record of the Year.

~~~~~~~ THE SINGING DOGS "JINGLE BELLS" b/w "OH, SUSANNA" LABEL: RCA – PA-10129
The idea for 'singing Dogs' is credited to Danish recording engineer Carl Weismann. He was noted for his field recordings of Birds, but was frustrated when Dog barking would ruin his recordings. His keen ear made him realize that dogs barked in different pitches.
In the 1950's, tape editing was becoming more sophisticated and Weismann, along with Don Charles, spliced together different Dog barks, at different pitches, to re-create popular songs.
In 1955 RCA Victor released "Oh, Susanna" on 45. The flip side had a medley, including a bit of 'Jingle Bells'. Don Charles expanded 'Jingle Bells' into a full song, using 5 different dogs.
In 1970, Howard Smith, a late night NYC DJ, played the full version of 'Jingle Bells' as a joke and a whole new generation got exposed to it. People wanted to know where to find a copy.
RCA re-released it 1971 as a Novelty Holiday single. It was an unexpected big hit, reaching #1 on the "Holiday" charts. You could say it was a 'howling' success.
Since then it has become a Holiday classic. This Black label RCA 45 is a 1970s release.
~~~~~~~ BOBBY HELMS "JINGLE BELL ROCK" b/w "CAPTAIN SANTA CLAUS" (And His Reindeer Space Patrol)  LABEL: DECCA 9-30513
"Jingle Bell Rock" is a classic Christmas song first released by Bobby Helms in 1957. The electric guitar bits are played by guitar legend Hank Garland. This is one of the most popular, and most often covered, Christmas songs.
Interestingly, when first issued in October 1957, 'Jingle Bell Rock' was the B-Side, but quickly became recognized as the 'Hit'.
This Decca 'rainbow' label means the pressing is from the early 1960s
~~~~~~ CHUBBY CHECKER & BOBBY RYDELL "JINGLE BELL ROCK" b/w  "JINGLE BELL ROCK IMITATIONS" LABEL: CAMEO C-205
This was one of the many 'cover' versions of Bobby Helms' classic song from 1957.
This was released in 1962. Chubby Checker's "Twist" was all the rage in 1962 and Bobby Rydell, a Philadelphia Rocker and Teen Idol, was also very popular at the time.
This is a First Pressing on the Philly Cameo label. This is the only 45 in this lot to have it's original Picture Sleeve. The sleeve is clean and bright, but does have some top 'curl' and a corner ding. More on that below.
~~~~~~~~ CLYDE McPHATTER & THE DRIFTERS "WHITE CHRISTMAS" b/w "THE BELLS OF SAINT MARY" LABEL: ATLANTIC 45-1048
McPhatter's voice was well known to pop music fans in the 50s. The drifters were very popular, so cutting a Holiday single was inevitable. McPhatter's classic voice on this traditional song sounds terrific and timeless.
Originally released in 1954, this is on the Red Atlantic label, with the 'fan' logo, so a mid-60's pressing. This is a Specialty Records Pressing.
~~~~~ JIMMY CHARLES "I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS" b/w "SANTA WON'T BE BLUE THIS CHRISTMAS" LABEL: PROMO RECORDS P-1004 1960
Jimmy Charles was an American Soul singer from New Jersey. He had a big hit with "A Million to One", sung in his unique distinctive "crying style."
This is one of his 2 'Christmas' 45's he made in the early 60's. This is from 1960 on the rare 'Promo' record label.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONDITION: I tried to show good hi-resolution photos of the cover, labels and vinyl in my pictures.
All of these 45's are in decent condition, but not perfect. They are all at least VG+ but the Singing Dogs and Chubby Checker are nicer, being EX-. The Chubby Checker is the best and the Bobby Charles is the worst VG+. As mentioned above, Some are First Pressings (Chipmunks/Rydell/Charles) the others are vintage repressings.
All come with clean white sleeves. The 'Dogs' has it's original RCA Company sleeve, The Chubby Checker has it's original Picture sleeve. Note that there is mild corner damage on the sleeve.
LABELS: The labels are all mostly clean. I tried to show close-ups of the primary sides. The Chubby Checker has a "NR" (No Return) rubber stamp on the B side. Somebody wrote a small "yes" next to Jimmy Charles name on the 'Mommy Kissing' side. Otherwise the labels look pretty good.
~~~~~~~~~ I thought there might be someone out there that would like these "Christmas" 45s. I know there are collectors of Christmas Music, but these would be fun for a new vinyl collector and would make a cool Holiday themed gift for a record collector. These are all vintage Holiday 45s that don't turn up too often at your local record shop. Fun and different.

I visually inspect all records under bright light, personally gently clean them with a soft cloth and then, if unsure, play them on a modern high-end turntable to get a true picture of condition. Please look at all the high-resolution pictures I added. They are all my own and are of the actual record being sold. The pictures are part of the description and can show small details, label variations, and condition better than I can put into words.

All items are packaged with sturdy cardboard mailers and appropriate padding. I take pride in my packaging and shipping and package all my records as if I were sending them to myself. I refuse to use cheap flimsy packaging material when sending my vinyl. I treat them as if they were my own and mail them the same way.
