I've made the decision to sell some of my very large collection of 7", 12" and LPs.
ALL THE ITEMS I AM SELLING COME FROM NEARLY FORTY YEARS OF COLLECTING.
I AM NOT A DEALER.

This iconic Chicago soul outfit tried severaldifferent permutations of numbers during their twelve-year history. After starting out as a five-piece, they broke up, then reformed as a trio. After lead singer Maurice McAlister had left for a brief solo career, The Radiants grew to a quartet, and recorded "Hold On", plus many other great late 60s singles. Meanwhile, the aforementioned McAlister had formed a duo, with another ex-Radiant, Green McLauren (Maurice A Mac). All this was done while under the banner of the Chess/Checker group.
The Radiants got together in 1960, and by the time that they started recording consisted of Maurice Eugene McAlister, Jerome Brooks, Wallace Sampson, Elzie Butler, and Green McLauren. Their first 45 was "Father Knows Best", which also marked their debut appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 (even one week at number 100 is an achievement). "Heartbreak Society" was the group's second single; publicity photos from that era are rather thin on the ground - hence the pitifully small size of the one above. The five-man line-up lasted for just four singles (plus one that was withdrawn), and they all bore different billings: The Radiants (1832); The Radiants featuring the voice of Gene McAlister (1849); Maurice McAlister & The Radiants (1872); and Maurice & The Radiants (1887). During this five-man period, they lost Green McLauren to the US Army, with his replacement being Frank McCollum.
As mentioned above, this is an issue copy of the group's second single, released in February 1963. Those who already own a promo only have half the story, however, because "Please Don't Leave Me" was only available on the ordinary issues. The B-side is another superb Northern track, and was one of the four tunes used to earn The Radiants their Chess contract. This single is currently valed at £100; demo's are £75.

The vinyl has very, very faint " spiders webs" only, and both sides play like new.
The A-side labe is close to immaculate; the B-side label has one small area of whitening. Both were produced on a rough vinyl bass (small pock marks only), and there is also a fairly large deletion hole.
This record has been played on both sides to verify condition, but there's a full money-back guarantee on all my sales, and I'll refund anyone who isn't totally captivated.
