"ACCEPT ME" IS ONE OF THOSE GORGEOUS CROSSOVER BEAT BALLADS THAT OCCASIONALLY CROPS UP AND HITS YOU WHERE IT HURTS; WITH LAZY TICKING PERCUSSION UNDERLYING OCCASIONAL HORN BLASTS AND HARVEY'S OWN SWEET VIBES WEAVING IN AND OUT, IT'S A DELIGHT TO HEAR; BUT IT'S KENNY SEYMOUR'S MAGNIFICENT  VOCAL DELIVERY THAT PROVE TO BE THE ICING ON THE CAKE; ONCE THE GROUP HAD EXHAUSTED THEIR DEBUT ALBUM ("VIVA SOUL"), THEIR OUTPUT APPEARED CONCURRENTLY ON BOTH FANIA AND IT'S NEW UPTITE SUBSIDIARY THROUGH OUT 1969; THAT YEAR SAW THEIR ALL-IMPORTANT SECOND LP HIT THE SHOPS; SIMPLY ENTITLED "THE HARVEY AVERN DOZEN", IT SPAWNED FOUR SINGLES -THREE ON UPTITE AND ONE ON FANIA; THE BIG MONEY WINNER THESE DAYS IS THEIR SECONE UPTITE 45, "NEVER LEARNED TO DANCE" (A VERY INAPPROPRIATE TITLE, SINCE IT IS NOW A FLOOR-PACKER); "ACCEPT ME" WAS THE FOURTH SINGLE TAKEN FROM THAT SET, AND REVERTED TO THE FANIA LABEL

THE FLIP IS SIMILAR IN STYLE TO THE A-SIDE; BUT WITH THE ADDITION OF FEMME BACKING SINGERS TOWARDS THE END; KENNY SEYMOUR REALLY DESERVED TO BE GIVEN DUAL BILLING SOMEWHERE ON THE LABEL (PERHAPS AS THE HARVEY AVERNE BAND FEATURING KENNY SEYMOUR), BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE STILL THINK IT'S HARVEY AVERNE SINGING LEAD; AVERNE WAS A MASTER AT WRITING A GREAT TUNE, AND HE PENNED BOTH SIDES OF THIS 45, AS WELL AS CO-PRODUCING THEM WITH JERRY MASUCCI; THIS SINGLE WAS THE LAST TO BE BILLED AS BY THE HARVEY AVERNE DOZEN, WITH LATER OUTPUT APPEARING AS THE HARVEY AVERNE BAND
