The first incarnation of Peaches & Herb were already Date recording acts prior to being put together by Van McCoy: Peaches was the lead singer of The Sweet Things ("I'm In A World Of Trouble"); while Herb had cut one solo 45 ("You're Messing Up My Mind")

A. The official A-side of the duo's debut single together, until the flip was re-promoted as the plug side later in the year; since it was Van McCoy who had the idea of forming the duo, it's no surprise to find his name as arranger; this uplifting, singalong skipper with nice horn riffs became a favoured spin at The Twisted  Wheel, and was subsequently bootlegged on one of the earliest labels especially devoted to the rare soul scene - Soul Sounds; also came out officially at the time in the U.K. on CBS, but by January 1967 the flip had already been promoted to the top side; a great U.K. cover of "We're In This Thing Together" appeared (again on CBS) by The Carrolls - fronted by renowned comedienne Faith Brown

B. The public were prone to disagree with the record industry's powers-that-be, often preferring the B-side when the promoters chose the official A-side; here is a good example of this trend; ballads from a bygone age proved a good source for updating, and this 1933 Harold Arlen/Ted Koehler tune received the most radio spins in this case; the song had already been covered by Tony Middleton & The Willows, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, etc; Peaches & Herb joined that elite group, and if became their debut hit; when it was re-promoted at the tail end of 1966, "Let's Fall In Love" was used on both sides of these so-called 're-services', so there would be no mistaking the new plug side this time; it was on the duo's debut album - also titled "Let's Fall In Love" (pictured above); "We're In This Thing Together", however, was not included
