DESCRIPTION…This rare and unique VICTOR RECORDS  5 record set in binder, titled MEMORIES of JAPAN measures 10 ½ tall, 11 ¼” wide, and 1” thick with all the records in it. The inside of the covers has a brief history on how and why this set was made. Each song is listed with a brief description/history of the song and a small illustration next to it.

   5 count 10” 78 rpm records in excellent no damage condition. The cover has a color illustration with Geshia girl holding a fan, and Oriental writting on the side.

Cover and spine in excellent condition, not much storage wear. The binding is tight with no rips on the 5 sleeves or writing anywhere. All records have no scratches, no chips or any damage I can see. They all have a nice even sheen on them. (NOTE! Light yellow/brown hue on inside covers, but no staining. Dark brown hue in photos from my poor photography.) We are not record experts, please ask questions if needed. They are 60+ years old and in excellent condition. It is printed on the inside cover MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN. (see photo) Rare and unique addition for any collection.

One half of all items produced in Japan after World War II from late 1945 until early 1952 for export to the U.S. and elsewhere in the world, were required by law to be marked with the words “Occupied Japan”, or “Made in Occupied Japan” in some form.  This law was introduced by General Douglas MacArthur as a way to help the American people and other Countries accept and purchase imports from the spurned and defeated nation of Japan. This would allow the Japanese people to gain a grip on their economic recovery. Other than the distinct hallmark, there is little proof to authenticate an item from the period.  These items are dated by their hallmark, limited in quantity, and will never be produced again.   © 2008
