The Bizarre Case of Chris Lucey --- also known as: Bobby Jameson

Original (rare) release...here is a rare LP and one of history's most bizarre rock n roll stories ... the original 1965 issue>>>

In 1965, Mira Records (known for releasing the LEAVES "Hey Joe" LP) recorded this 10-song album with a Sunset Strip Southern California scene-ster, a singer-songwriter, named Chris Ducey. Enter one Bobby Jameson... Mira Records had the covers & records to this release printed and were ready to go.

Then they discovered that Ducey was actually Bobby Jameson, signed to "Verve Records" meaning they had no rights to release this album.

What to do... company stroke of genius: find an unknown name that supposedly recorded this album of ten songs, overprint the cover with the 'D' of Ducey changed to an 'L' and there you have it, Songs of Protest and Anti-Protest by Chris Lucey.

Weird aside: the man playing the harmonica on the cover is actually Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones who happened to be in Los Angeles at the time recording the Rolling Stones "AFTERMATH" album.

Bobby Jameson was that unknown and although he was stiffed in that deal... even though so many years later this album has gradually garnered a large cult following for obvious musical reasons.

Bobby Jameson went on to record two further albums under his real name with Verve Records -- even though, there was no happy ending. Ducey, Lucy, Jameson became disillusioned, drug-addicted, and suicidal in the 1970s. He moved in with his mother and died in 2015 at the age of 70.

He's perhaps also known for a statement that he wrote on the internet in the last eight years of his life. It chronicles his life and the bitterness he held over his lack of recognition and financial reward.

All very sad. But the reality is, he was a very fine songwriter and performer.

The American musician "Ariel Pink" released  a dedication to Bobby Jameson, which channels the tormented spirit of the late singer. In the episode of "New Horizons," they play a selection of songs from Bobby Jameson and Ariel Pink, and ends the programme with a tribute.... A:

                 CONDITION: The cover: rated: "EX" (excellent) ...this is one hell of a cover to find CLEAN... So chances are likely you won't find a better copy .... there are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing  ...

The vinyl: Rated: near "EX" (excellent) ... there are a few minor (soft) hair scuffs, nothing remotely to cause any problems to the excellent audio throughout. Both "Mira" labels are clean
