Now Is The Time For...
THE HEARTS AND FLOWERS
\ USA - RAINBOW CAPITOL RECORDS - T-2762 - MONO
Original 1967 first pressing vinyl in glorious MONO on the highly collected RAINBOW Capitol label of the sixties ...the very first (of two) HEARTS AND FLOWERS...
The MONO release offers different song mixes from the stereo issue as well as a bold punchy production that suits the sixties sound so well....
An excellent and still underrated group from Los Angeles, California, Hearts and Flowers produced two albums mixing Byrds styled electric folk rock with West Coast harmonies and a breezy California feel. HEARTS AND FLOWERS first album was released in June 1967. Masterfully produced by Nick Venet (Fred Neil, Stone Poneys, Euphoria, Mad River), Now Is The Time For Hearts And Flowers is a real gem. The choice of material is outstanding, with excellent playing on "Reason To Believe", "10,000 Sunsets", "Road To Nowhere" and "Try For The Sun", plus two songs of underground psychedelic groups: "Please", the Kaleidoscope song and "Rock And Roll Gypsies" by Gypsy Trips. Their original songs were penned by group members Murray, Cunha and Marty Cooper. The vocals are brilliant and Venet added some good production tricks, with some effects, violin, electric bass...
The sales were unfairly and unfortunately poor, the album went unnoticed by the hipster listener crowd of the day and Capitol decided to give them a push: two new members, Terry Paul and Dan Woody, were drafted to reinforce their live impact and a promotion campaign began at the end of 1967.
