Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. • The real deal ~ always been hard to find...one of the benefits of excavating musical vinyl treasures in California - most copies seem to be issued and buried within the West Coast
  1.  The infamous Chocolate Watch Band from San Jose California are the quintessential garage psychedelic band; their story is angst ridden and strange.

  2. Consisting of Dave Aguilar, lead vocals and harmonica, Mark Loomis, lead guiar and keys, Bill Flores, bass, Sean Tolby, rhythm guitar and Gary Andrijasevich on drums. It was this incarnation that earned Chocolate Watch Band its reputation as a knock-out live act by becoming known for their wildness and raw energy on stage. They were regularly gigging around the Sanfrancisco area with groups such as the Doors and the Mothers of Invention playing mostly monster versions by obscure groups from England. Around this time in ’67 the band was introduced to the up-and-coming studio producer Ed Cobb. The band got their kicks by upstaging headliners with their forceful stage performance. They considered their recordings in the studio an afterthought best left in the hands of Cobb.

Ed Cobb was to have a profound impact on the legacy of Chocolate Watch Band.
  3. The raw garage power of the Chocolate Watch Band is legendary.

Released in early 1968, The Inner Mystique featured a tripped-out cosmic blend of psychedelia AND fuzzed-out searing garage-punk strong enough to out-class the Rollin' Stones at their own game!

The Inner Mystique kicks off with the psychedelic raga “Voyage of the Trieste”. Drenched in sitars, chimes, fluttering flute, the cut is propelled by a repetitive fuzzy power-chord pulsing ‘m-e-l-l-o-w’. This cut is followed a soft sitar-psych rendition of “In the Past." Our nod it being one of the best-ever psychedelic high-rise creations - the sound, the mood, forever infectiousness. This shimmering and echo-y number is more than impressive.

  4. The first side closes with the title track "The Inner Mystique" , another sitar groover being essentially a reprise of “Voyage of the Trieste”, just slower and darker in tone. Altogether this side of the album is a pleasant slice of heavenly psychedelia, very enjoyable, but without the power of the second side to rescue it from the otherwise obscurity - its eventual fate in the '60s.

  5. The Chocolate Watch Band on the second side. Five decidedly garage-punk historical recordings per the genre. The kicker is - these are cover versions done better than the originals - rumored to be out-takes from their first album "No Way Out" and a remixed and re-dubbed version of Dylan’s “It's All Over Now, Baby Blue” from the Watchbands first single released in ’66.

  6. The first cut is a burning (scorcher?!) take on “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” by the Kinks fame. Singer Dave Aguilar’s vocals simmer, coming to a rolling boil as he barks out the chorus in a super-catchy punk brogue Ray Davies couldn’t have achieved. Bashing caveman drums and Fender twin guitars in friggin' overdrive, this is garage primitive at its forever best. At this point, the next two tracks, “Medication” and “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go” cook quite impressively. There's a Dylan cover with is simply excellent.

  7. The album closes with the wailing fiery “I Ain’t No Miracle Worker”; Singer Aguilar positively howls. Jangly guitars and eastern-edged bouzouki round out this killer cut.

Confrontational garage-punk mixed with acid-head psychedelia, this album was too 'out-there' for the fickle 'HITS' demanding masses, so the Chocolate Watch Band moved on - and out, with producer Ed Cobb getting into other bands like Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, and Pink Floyd.

  8. Luckily we have these psychedelic-garage forever-anthems to ignite us with each spin of the record when The Inner Mystique applies the balm before and after the burn of a comet overhead.

                     CONDITION:

  1. The cover: rated: near M- (really)-nice for this often found worn or wasted fragile cover...thick colorful cardboard remains with the WHITE still ver snow-white after some 53 years ... There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing  ...

  1. The vinyl: Rated: VG(+) - note: grade is visual, there is nothing to be felt (as in deep) and otherwise plays excellent (audio) despite very-soft scuffs/hairlines...so to be careful, graded a strong "very good" which is a reminder the vinyl plays quite acceptable  - opinion upon play-grade here.  Yet - both TOWER labels are clean
