Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

CLEAN COLLECTION COPY!

Very rare as was quickly withdrawn, thus remained a small release limited edition and of course 48 years later the item is highly sought after, especially being the first LP by the ever popular/creative UK progressive band, AUDIENCE.

100% first press, 1969 UK original housed in a super fragile sleeve ... valued collectible has previously sold in past with a high of $710...

AUDIENCE was a London-based group that recorded their first album in '69 and had their self titled first LP pulled from the stores a few months after its release, which makes the album a major collectible.

Deciding to adopt the name Audience, rather than persist with the laborious Lloyd Alexander Blues Band from whom they emerged, the band recorded this album in early 1969. Audience developed a blues-derived early progressive rock sound that had two main characteristics, guitarist Howard Werth's voice (which sort of sound like Van der Graaf Generator and Gnidrolog's vocalists styles) and Keith Gemmell's talented multi-instrumentation. Tracks like the opening Banquet (this has the power of their future records), the superb Heaven Was An Island (with its great percussive intro leading to a sizzling sax and wild lyrics), the dreamy Maiden's Cry (plaintive yet riveting with its sax approaching Van der Graaf's David Jackson), the solemn Leave It Unsaid and a first version of "House On The Hill" LP are all excellent tracks indicating the greatness of their future oeuvres. Elsewhere are tracks like "Poet" (cool flute), "Waverley Stage Coach (sinister bluesy grooves), and "River Boat Queen" ( more underground edgy blues structures with weird story-line)

Bottom line, the first Audience is LP highly rated for good reason, representative of their best innovative offerings formulated by creative bluesy progressive adventures - on the level with the best of the style! Easily as good or better than their forever popular Lp's, "Friend's Friend's Friend" and its better-known successor "House On The Hill." SO, if you loved those two albums enough, this one will also please you because the nascent Audience sound is here, with musical powers waiting to be unleashed!

Because of this album's quick disappearance from the market, you will find many of the groups ideas here ending up in different variations on their following two albums ( and under different song titles as well ), making this album sound sometimes like a fantastic long lost demo.

- Howard Werth / guitar (acoustic), guitar, vocals

- Tony Connor / percussion, piano, drums

- Keith Gemmell / saxophone, wind, woodwind

- Trevor Williams / bass, guitar (bass), keyboards, vocals

CONDITION: The cover: rated: "EX" (excellent) consider about as good as you could hope for, constructed by a very fragile charcoal paper, so pretty much forget about ever finding a copy without some light handling creases. The cover retains fresh original colors, no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing  ... collection worthy rarity ...

The vinyl: Rated: Clean and glossy over both sides, rated: near M- couple of finger nail type soft scuffs, exceedingly clean, plays strong M- WAS TESTED YESTERDAY AND COMPLETELY ENJOYABLE - NICE RARITY! ...NO distracting surface problems ... both Polydor labels are mint clean..

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
