Description

6 LPs: Bob Hope

Armed Forces Radio & Television Service
Armed Forces Information & Education
Department of Defense
Also
B-sides ”Be Still and Know”

These are six 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm records in Excellent condition (no covers…the original Armed Forces sleeves: see photos).
These are original vintage transcriptions of Armed Forces Radio programs, some from Bob’s Hollywood show and others of his visits to entertain servicemen at their bases (Camp Roberts/Los Alamitos Air Station, Fort Ord and one from England). Music by Les Brown and his Band of Renown with guests that include Jane Russell, Rosemary Clooney, Terri Moore, Margaret Whiting, Henry Fonda and Jane Wyman.
The B-sides of each LP contain “Be Still and Know” (short daily inspirational programs from the Presbyterian Church).

Prompted by patriotism, Bob Hope kept touring for more than fifty years…he took his variety show on the road to entertain U.S. troops wherever those soldiers were stationed. Hope's variety shows for the troops included comedy monologs, specialty acts, celebrity appearances, dancers, singers, and skits. His mildly irreverent humor, teamed with his variety troupe's beautiful women, provided a welcome respite for the U.S. forces… In 1997 Bob Hope was designated an honorary veteran for his humanitarian services to the United States Armed Forces by Congress. He is the only individual in history to have earned this honor.
