Label: Revis Records ?- Catalog number: 1013 - Release date: June 1965

B-side :   Utee           (2:20)  - composer Rosa Lee Brooks / Billy Revis -

Lead Guitar – Jimi Hendrix

Producer – Billy Revis

Technician – Doc Siegal

This single is almost mythical amongst Hendrix collectors, and this one is even rarer as a promotional copy… and it is more than 55 years old !!!

Regarded as being the first appearance of Hendrix on vinyl and also the first known Hendrix recording session !!!

Hendrix himself never mentioned the Rosa Lee Brooks single, but both Arthur Lee of Love and Rosa Lee Brooks have stated that he played guitar on the session. Arthur Lee says that he met Jimi Hendrix when Billy Revis recommended him as someone who could play in the style of Curtis Mayfield. Lee had seen Jimi as a session man backing up the Isley Brothers. ‘My Diary’ is the first Arthur Lee composition that came near to being a hit. It was written for the R&B singer Rosa Lee Brooks, who performed and recorded it.

 Condition :

Record : considering the incredibly rare nature of this single, to ever find a copy is unexpected and though this is not mint condition, I can grade it as VG+

The vinyl is graded with the standard UK Record Collector Magazine grading system. VG ‘‘The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch’’.

Matrix number :   Matrix A: RR-1013-A / ¨Matrix B: RR-1013-B

Label :  WOL on B side ‘8-6’ (marker pen ink) … see picture.

Red & white label with text ‘Promotional Not For Sale’. Stock copy is a red & black label.

Cover : this record came out with a white generic sleeve

This copy is in a cardboard and plastic protective sleeve, as I got it in the 70’s.
