Bluebird 78-RPM Jimmie Gunn & Orchestra (B-6500) 1936 recordings
A-side: I've Found a New Baby B-side: To My Levee Home (with vocal refrain by David Pugh)
The Jimmie Gunn orchestra was known as a territory band during the 1930s, billing themselves as "The Nation's Foremost Colored Dance Orchestra." Based in Charlotte, the orchestra toured mainly in the Carolinas and Georgia. Such bands typically played ballrooms, minstrel and vaudeville shows, school dances and other venues accessible to African-American musicians in that period of racial segregation. After his musical career, Gunn became a teacher and in 1944 he became the principal of Clear Creek Negro School in Charlotte, which was renamed J.H. Gunn High School in 1954. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm not an experienced grader, but this record appears to be in nearly perfect condition!
