Description

This is an E condition 10” vinyl test of Columbia matrix #147283-2, "Pleyel's Hymn", recorded by the Daniels-Deason Sacred Harp Singers in 1928 but never issued. This disc has the excellent sound quality of a well cared for vinyl test made from a master recording. The unaccompanied singing itself is superb. Of the four sides recorded by the group in October, 1928, only two were issued. Company files furnish the recording date but no personnel details. The text sung on this unissued side was written by English novelist, poet & religious dissenter Helen Maria Williams (1759-1827). The melody is arranged from music written by Ignaz Joseph Pleyel (1757-1831), an Austrian composer.
