ARTIST: Mississippi John Hurt
DESCRIPTION:
8 1/2" x 11" flyer/advertisement for the first appearance of Mississippi John Hurt in Boston in February 1964 for a 6 day gig at Cafe Yana.  Also included is the February 1964 issue of the traditional music magazine BROADSIDE (12 pages) which covered local news in the folk music / coffee house scene with Hurt being the cover story for this issue.  Hurt had been discovered the year before and had appeared in New York and Philadelphia, but this was his first visit to Boston-Cambridge, a hotbed of traditional music.
