78 RPM early, vintage Northeast local orchestra from 1939 - Newt Perry's Orchestra and the Smith College Smiffenpoofs - this is a very rare record.

Newt Perry was a Yale student who dropped out of Yale to form his own dance band.  They played the local college venues in the Northeast and his band became popular enough to share engagements with Charlie Spivak, Red Norvo and Jimmy Dorsey.   This is a very early record from 1939 shortly after his band was formed.

The Smith College Smiffenpoofs were an all-girl acapella group formed in 1936 similar to the all-male Yale Whiffenpoofs.  This is a very early record of the group since the Smiffenpoofs would have been only 3 years old by then. The record contains two songs written by Jeanne Perkins and Rose Kummel which one would think would have been Smith College students.  Full of the Devil is sung by Jeanne Perkins and Betty Hutchinson. 

I cannot find any other records by Newt Perry; this may be the only recording he and his band made.

Rates E, very clean and shiny, light scuffing and scratches - played cleanly and clearly on my Dual 1218 turntable.

My grading scale is not complicated. Mint (M, M-) means like new with only the slightest of scuffing. Excellent (E, E+, E-) means minor scuffs, scrapes, label wear, light scratches that do not affect the play. Good (G, G+, G-) means scuffing, scraping, scratches, acceptable playing with noticible noise. I try not to sell records that are warped or that skip unless noted. These are records I have picked up while expanding my own record collection.

I pack very carefully with cardboard reinforcement, bubble wrap and sturdy boxes. I combine shipping on multiple purchases where possible.
