Up for sale today is an exceptionally rare and fascinating offering I found the other day amongst a large sale of approximately 15,000 78 rpm records. This 78 bears a somewhat menacing, or at the very least distinctive image of an imp clasping two records. The label is monochrome and bears a gold inlay. I have never seen or heard of this record before, and upon a quick google search discovered it was the subject of some discussion by the famed and highly accomplished British discographer, Frank Andrews in the magazine "The Talking Machine Review" back in the 1990's. He states there that despite the record being manufactured in London, he had never seen a 78 bearing this label. Mind you, this was someone who had seen 100's of thousands of 78's, probably millions in his lifetime (he was the most extensive British discographer ever after all). He goes on to say that only 4 entries in the discography have been verified to exist (49, 112, 120, 126). In total 1 of these records has been sold on eBay ever, and that was of number 124, bringing our total to 5 known entries. Here I'm offering yet another entry, 128 performed by Ben Johnstone and titled Oh, Tomorrow Night / Hello, Who's Your Lady Friend. This is easily one of the rarest record labels in the world and one you are unlikely to see again for a very long time if ever. Mind you even Black Patti records have been sold on eBay well over 40 times over the years. The Imp has just once. This may be the only copy of this particular issue in the world.
